Chris Carrino Foundation Board Awards Research Grant to Dr. Scott Harper at The Ohio State University

We are proud to announce that the Board of Directors of the Chris Carrino Foundation for FSHD has recently awarded a scientific research grant in the amount of $75,625 to Dr. Scott Harper and his team at The Ohio State University. The grant will fund a study titled “Developing a muscle-specific DUX4 inhibition system for FSHD therapy”

The goal of Dr. Harper and his researchers is to develop a therapeutic approach for FSHD through DUX4 inhibition. The overall objective of this therapeutic strategy is to reduce DUX4 expression and muscle toxicity using RNA interference (RNAi)-mediated DUX4 gene silencing.

This is the continuation of our support from last year, which helped Dr. Harper’s lab refine their RNAi delivery system so they can restrict its effects specifically to muscle.
This work is significant because it represents an important step toward developing a targeted FSHD therapy.

With the help of your generous support, the Chris Carrino Foundation for FSHD has now funded over $250,000 in scientific research dedicated to treating and curing FSHD.
